PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:
Paul T. Oki was admitted to our firm in 1998 and has since gained considerable experience in our growing Telecommunications Law practice. Upon our appointment by the Bureau of Public Enterprises in 1999 to advise the Nigerian Government on a Regulatory Framework for the Telecommunications and Power Industries, Mr. Oki was part of our team to South Africa for consultations with Regulatory Experts from the Public and Private sectors of the South African Telecommunications Industry. He has attended several international conferences on Telecommunications, and has written several insightful articles on the Nigerian Telecommunications Industry.
Mr. Oki was also deeply involved in all the legal and commercial negotiations leading to the successful entry of a major South African Cellular Operator into the Nigerian Industry for the operation of a GSM license in 1999. He has also worked very closely with the Nigerian Legislature (through the House Committee on Communications) on the development and drafting of a Private Member's Bill designed to enhance the powers and independence of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), and continues to remain one of the key Resource Persons to the House Committee on telecommunications.
Mr. Oki's most recent assignment involved advising one of the three Final-Round Bidders in the USD1.317 Billion acquisition of 51% Equity Stake in NITEL (the Nigerian PSTN) under the Government's on-going Privatisation Program.
