PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:
George Etomi established the Law Firm of George Etomi & Partners in 1984. Prior to this he worked in one of the premier Commercial Law Firms, Chris Ogunbanjo & Co. He has extensive experience in commercial transactions, spanning oil & Gas Law, Aviation Law, Building and Construction Law, Banking Law and Arbitration. He has been involved in a wide range of corporate transactions and he represented clients of all sizes on a variety of corporate and commercial matters including public and private offerings, privatization and major project finance transactions.
George Etomi has a special interest in Telecommunications and Competition Law and Policy. He was closely involved in acting for the first mobile telephone service in the country and has gone on to represent clients in the GSM wireless market and most recently in the privatization of the national carrier NITEL. He has also been closely involved in providing policy advice and legislative drafting of the proposed telecommunications law working closely with the National Assembly.
Mr. Etomi also has a special interest in Oil and Gas Law and has worked over the years with numerous multinational oil companies. He has also kept close to his heart the cause of the people of the oil producing states acting as a mediator and champion of their cause.
He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association. He has worked as a member of the United Nations General Assembly in 1990. He is the author of numerous published articles.
